RiverPulse — Privacy Policy

Last updated 30 July 2026 · applies to RiverPulse for Android (no.datahove.vannstand)

NO DATA COLLECTED

RiverPulse does not collect, store or share any personal data. There are no accounts, no sign-up, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking of any kind. Your favourite rivers and section settings stay on your device. The only network requests the app makes are to Norway's public hydrological API to fetch river measurements.

This policy explains exactly what RiverPulse does and does not do with data. It is written to describe the app's real behaviour rather than to cover every hypothetical, and it is kept in step with the app itself.

1. Who is responsible

RiverPulse is published by Datahove AS (Norway), the data controller for the purposes of the EU/EEA General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2. What RiverPulse does not do

To be unambiguous, the app contains none of the following:

The app requests only two Android permissions, both required simply to fetch measurements:

PermissionWhy it is needed
INTERNETTo request river measurements from NVE's public API.
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATETo detect whether the device is online, so the app can label saved readings as offline instead of appearing to show live data.

3. What is stored on your device

Your settings are saved locally so the app remembers them between launches. This information stays on your device, is never transmitted to us or anyone else, and we have no way to see it.

WhatContents
Your favourite rivers Which measuring stations you added, the order you arranged them in, and any names you gave them yourself.
Your sections The named river stretches you defined, with their minimum and maximum flow or level values.
Car screen state Which river you last viewed on the Android Auto screen, so it reopens on the same one.
Home-screen widget settings Which river each widget you placed is configured to show.
Cached measurement data Recently fetched readings and a cached list of NVE's measuring stations, so the app works offline and does not re-download the same public data repeatedly.

None of this is personal data about you — it is a list of rivers and numeric thresholds. All of it is deleted when you uninstall RiverPulse, or immediately if you use Android's Settings → Apps → RiverPulse → Storage → Clear data.

4. The one external service the app contacts

RiverPulse fetches its measurements from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) hydrological API at https://hydapi.nve.no. This is the app's only network destination.

What is sent

What is not sent

As with any request to any website, NVE's servers necessarily see the technical information inherent in an internet connection, including your device's IP address, and may keep their own server logs. We neither control nor receive those logs. NVE's use of them is governed by NVE's own terms, published at hydapi.nve.no/UserDocumentation. We mention it because it is true of every app that loads data from the internet, and we would rather state it than imply the connection is invisible.

River measurement data supplied by NVE is public information, licensed under the Norwegian Licence for Open Government Data (NLOD). It describes rivers, not people.

5. Google Play

RiverPulse is distributed through Google Play. Google collects its own data in connection with app distribution — for example install and update records, and crash and performance diagnostics where you have chosen to share them in your Android device settings. That processing is carried out by Google under Google's Privacy Policy and is outside our control. We do not add any crash-reporting or analytics tooling of our own, and we receive no personal data about you from Google.

6. Android Auto and home-screen widgets

The Android Auto car screen and the home-screen widgets display the same river information as the app, drawn from the same locally stored settings and the same NVE data. They collect nothing additional, and the car screen has no access to vehicle data, location or any driver information.

7. Children

RiverPulse is a general-audience utility for paddlers and is not directed at children. It collects no personal data from anyone, of any age.

8. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection with respect to personal data a controller holds about you. Because RiverPulse collects no personal data and we hold no records about users, there is in practice nothing for us to retrieve, correct, export or delete — and no lawful basis is required, because no processing of personal data takes place. The settings stored on your device remain entirely under your control and can be removed at any time as described in section 3.

If you believe otherwise, or want to ask anything about this policy, write to post@datahove.no and we will respond. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet).

9. Data retention

We retain no data, because we collect none. Data cached on your device is kept only until it is refreshed, you clear the app's data, or you uninstall the app.

10. Changes to this policy

If the app's behaviour ever changes in a way that affects this policy, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date at the top revised. Material changes affecting how data is handled will be reflected here before the relevant app version is released.

11. This website

This page is a single static document. It sets no cookies, runs no scripts, and loads no external fonts, images or trackers — everything it needs is served from this folder.
